Welcome to 1ComputerTech.com
Hello, my name is Tommy Campbell. I am 53 at the time of this writing and have been a part of the computer service and support business for 25+ years.
I started with a Tandy 1000 EX in 1991 by trading an old guitar for it. I had Spreadsheet and Word Processor applications as well as a few games. I quickly out grew it and began searching for something more interesting, with more power and capabilities.
My day job during this time was construction; both residential and commercial. It seemed that every year somewhere after Thanksgiving, I would be laid off and could not find work until after tax season the following year. Unfortunately, 1991 was no different.
My wife and I decided that I should go to a trade school to learn what was so interesting to me (computers) and it didn't hurt that there were 36 pages of help wanted ads in the Washington Post with 17 of them being for some type of computer professional. Back then that was how you found jobs! LOL
I first went to a trade school that offered a BA degree program in Computer Science. The school was very well known and advertised on TV. I remember watching the TV commercials where it would show a successful student standing by a sports car and all I could think is, I can do that. When I started at this school I was working construction by day, then washing and changing clothes in the school bathroom and attending school at night. I drove an hour each way to get to work and then 30 minutes each way to school. I ended up having to drop from the school because the instructors would simply give you a textbook, a lab book and then you never saw them again. It was very frustrating.
Discouraged but not about to give up, I continued to search for a school. I found one in Alexandria Virgina called TESST Electronics and Computer Institute. Now it is called TESST College of Technology and only has campuses in Baltimore and Beltsville Maryland. I took the accelerated 2-year BA equivalent course. I maintained perfect attendance and a 3.95 GPA throughout the entire program. I was a member of the President's Club and I was cast in a commercial touting how great the school was along with several others from the graduate class of 1992! I did so well at the school that they hired me to train the lab students in semester 1 for basic electronics. I was an instructor too!
Now that I have a white collar job in late 1992 I wanted to go full time. The school had an incredible placement assistance program and they found me a system engineer position at National Captioning Institute. I worked there for just at 5 years and then moved to Charlotte NC to take a contract position at Microsoft. 13 Months into my contract position Microsoft made an offer and I accepted a full-time position as a Desktop Support Engineer for DOS 5.5/6.0, Windows 3.11 and Windows 95. I stayed with Microsoft for 10 more years and ended my tenure as an Operations Program Manager III.
Since then I have worked for ComputerNet Resouce Group, Lowes, Azaleos and Avanade Consulting as a Network Operation Center Supervisor (Shift Lead). I left Avanade in mid-January of 2017 and currently seeking new opportunities.
During my off time, I am working with my wife in real estate investing by building our second horse farm. I am also dabbling in online affiliate sales and internet marketing.
My new career goal is to build a personal 100K per year Internet Marketing Company and work for myself.
The goal of this Blog will be to take you along on my journey in learning how to do affiliate sales and Internet marketing. I hope you enjoy it!
